FUNCTIONS AND PERFORMANCES:
- IMMEDIATE EFFECTIVENESS - Upon installation, FIBROMAT ECB covers the whole soil surfce, immediately reducing soil erosion losses by 85%, or greater, compared to unprotected bare soil. FIBROMAT ECB can be installes as soon as slopes are trimmed. Effect gradd establishment is achieved by hydroseeding before or after installtion.
- RAINFALL PROTECTION - FIBROMAT ECB absorbs and dissipates energy released by heavy rainfall. Soil, seed and fertilizer are protected from being washed away.
- REDUCTION IN RUNOFF VELOCITY - By inducing greater surfaces roughness, FIBROMAT ECB reduce velocity of runoff, and hence the capacity of runoff to detach and transport soil particles.
- IMPROVED SOIL FERTILITY AND MOISTURE RETENTION - FIBROMAT ECB improves soil fertility as its bio-degrades by improving the organic matter contect and buffering capacity. Retention of surface moisture is enhanced, providing critical water to assist plant establishment during periods of drought.
- PROTECT YOUNG GRASS - FIBROMAT ECB prevents washout of seedlings and drought stress. In addition reinforcement of the vegetation matrix is provided by the polypropylene netting.
- COST EFFECTIVE AND USER-FRIENDLY - Ten unskilled labourers can install up to 10,000 m2 in one day and many times faster than conventional turfing. Costs of installation are therefore reduced and the period of the soil exposure is minimised.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURES
For efficient operation, FIBROMAT ECB must be in intimate contact with the soil surface, This is achieved by allowing FIBROMAT ECB to drape over the surface undulations and secutring to the soil by stapling. Surface where good contact cannot be achieved, for example deeply riles and rocky slapes are not suitable fpr treatment with FIBROMAT ECB.
SOIL SURFACE PREPARATION
A freshly trimmed fill or cut slope provides an ideal surface on which to install FIBROMAT ECB. However, if the incipient erosion such as riling, gulling and sloughing has occured, the slope will beed to be re-filled, gred and compacted. Large clods of earth and stones greater than 50mm diameter should be removed.
SEEDING
FIBROMAT ECB can be seeded before or after installation. Normal practice is to apply slurry of seeds, fertilizers, binders and organic matteres by the technique of hydro-seeding. Where on highly erosive soils, FIBROMAT ECB installation is required immediately after trimming, and the seeds can be introduce later over the FIBROMATE ECB by hydro-seeding process.
LAYING AND STAPLING
For slope protection siply unrill the FIBROMAT ECB down the slope at the right angle towards the contour with the protective netting facing upwares. Overlap adjacent rolls by a minimum margin of 50mm. Staple with "U" shaped staples, length of 100-150mm, 5mm diameter steel. The general pattern if stapling is at 2.00m internals both at the margins and in a offset line, in the backfilled trench at the top of the slope and wherever necessary to accommodate for surface undulations.
