THE PROFIX SYSTEM
PROFIX is a fast and cheap erosion protection methos where the system is durable, permeable, allows plants to grow on it, and does not harm the environment. The system is variable and adaptable, enabling tailor made erosion control solutions.
The PROFIX system is a flexible erosion control system composed of filter-cloth and granular materials. Made of green coloured composite fabric, this largely pre-fabricated empty mattress can be easily delivered at site. Fillinf with suitable material that can be found nearby and the equipment or tools are mostly small and easy to mobilize has made this PROFIX system most popular erosion control product in wet area.
By the simplicity of its construction the PROFIX system can be installed almost everywhere. It can be unrolled and filled directly onto the banks. Fillinf can be done "dry"or "wet"by manual labour. The filles mattress may eventually be shifted to lower parts of the slope underwater.
The upper filter-cloth of PROFIX provide long lasting UV protection and enhancing natural vegetation growth thus provides pleasant and attractive natural bank protection.
COMPOSITE AND PROPERTIES
By its composition, the PROFIX system becomes a flexible and current resistant mat with excellent filter properties. Both filter-cloth are soil tight and the upper cloth is extra stabilised againsr UV radiation. However the cloths allow plants roots to penetrate thus providing extra protection to the construction.
Sand and/or gravel are the most suitable for fill material. Mixing seends can be promote vegetation. Protection will become part of the landscape and opportunities for recreation activities.

STABILITY AND FLEXIBILITY
PROFIX provides a stabl mat which is able to withstand high currents and limited wave action. Irregularities on banks and beds are easily overcome. Flexibility mat will fall into the scouring and form a new line of protection neutralized the risk of soil erosion under mattress edges.
FILLING METHODS
- PNEUMATIC FILLING - Suitabke for larges areas of PROFIX have to be installed. Sand is blown through a flexible hose into the PROFIX tubes using compressor and sand hopper with feeder.
- DRY FILLING - Suitable for large areas where can be filled in a dry conditions. PVC pipe is inserted into the PROFIX tube, sand is dropped through the fill-opening in the pipe and subsequently ramme down with a concrete rammer. Compacted sand ballast inside PROFIX is the advantage of this method.
- WET FILLING - The wet filling system is similar to the dry filling method using rammer. The sand is being washed down by a water jet. This will provides a more continuous process with well compacted sand ballast in the PROFIX.
ANCHORING
It is advised to anchor the mats on top of the slope in trench when PROFIX is being used on steep slopes or in the area with strong currents or fluctuating water level.
TRANSPORTATION AND PREPARATION
The material will be in ready-made sheets of 3.8meter wide transported to site in rolls. Final position can be achieved by pulling and placing the mat sections. LArger areas can be made by sewing each sheet with hand-sewing machine on site. A damping beam for lifting and placing filled PROFIX sections by crane can be made available.
MATERIAL PROPERTIES
- Tubular Sand Filled Mattress is made of green coloured non-woven composite fabric being sewn together with woven geotextile to form tubes at regular interval
- The upper woven composite fabric made of polypropylene is needle-punched with uv stabilized green fibers and tape yarns
- The lower woven fabric is made of UV stabilised polypropylene
- Overlap flaps width is 150mm
- Sewing thread with 920N tensile strength and 20% elongation at break will be stitch at 40mm length
